Maria
van Beek (Mrs) – Commissioner of Insurance
Maria qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries
(London) in 2001 following a highly successful academic path, the highlights
of which include a Bachelors of Science (Hons.) degree in Actuarial
Science from the London School of Economics and Political Science and
an offer of a Guyana scholarship as a result of excellent performances
at the Bishops’ High School, Georgetown.
Maria’s working career started in 1995 and included
employment with KPMG in Munich, Sun Alliance International and Generali
in Guernsey and Legal and General in the UK in various actuarial capacities.
During this period she gained extensive experience in insurance including
financial reporting and product management. As part of her actuarial
training she studied and passed exams relating to investments, general
and life insurance and pensions. As product manager in Legal and General
she managed up to four (4) actuarial and marketing staff. She returned
to Guyana in 2002 after successfully applying and being offered the
position of Commissioner of Insurance.
Kampta
Samaroo
Assistant Commissioner (Risk& Operations)
Mr. Samaroo has joined the Office of the Commissioner
of insurance in May 2008. His professional career started at the Office
of the Auditor General (Audit Office) in 1983. In 1994 he was employed
by the Demerara Distilleries Limited (DDL) as an assistant accountant.
He was also the Chief Internal Auditor of the Guyana Water Authority
(Guyana Water Inc) and also was the Internal Auditor of The Guyana &
Trinidad Mutual Fire and General Insurance Company Limited.
Mr. Samaroo has acquired the academic status of Bachelor
of Social sciences in the field of Accountancy from the University of
Guyana.
Rabindra
Budhai
Accountant
Rabindra’s commenced his working career at the Demerara Distillers
Limited (DDL) in 1999. His tenure with the Company lasted for eight
years where he gained extensive knowledge and experience in various
sections of the finance departments within the organization. In 2003
he was promoted to Assistant Accountant within the group, attached to
one of the Company’s subsidiary where he was task with the responsibility
of managing the subsidiary’s Finance Department until 2007.
He has successfully completed the Certified Accounting
Technician (CAT) in 2002 and currently pursuing his professional career
in accounting through the Association of Chartered Certified Accountant
(ACCA).
Rabindra joined the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance
(OCI) in May 2008 as the Accountant and he is tasked with all functions
of Accounting within the office in accordance with Local and International
Standards and Procedures.
Tracy
Gibson (Ms.) - Assistant Commissioner: Compliances & Legal Services
Ms. Tracy Gibson, Legal Officer since September 2005.
Is presently responsible to the Commissioner for all legal matters of
the Commission and provides advice on regular operational issues as
well.
She was admitted to practice at the Guyana Bar in 1997
soon after successfully completing her legal studies at the University
of Guyana and subsequently at the Sir Hugh Wooding Law School, in Trinidad
& Tobago. In 2003 she successfully completed the Certificate of
Diplomacy, co-sponsored by the University of Guyana and the Foreign
Services Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ms. Gibson has also completed extensive military training
locally and internationally and was commissioned as a military officer
by the President of Guyana in the year 1999. Having served for eight
years, Ms. Gibson left the Guyana Defence Force as Commanding Officer
Legal Services Department. This involved among other duties, being the
principal legal advisor to the Chief of Staff.
Ms. Gibson values the work experience acquired in the
military and the exposure and career developments she now experiences
in discharging the wide ranging job responsibilities of Legal officer
OCI.
Rebecca
Patram (Ms) – Registration Officer
Rebecca is a successful Fellow of Life Management
Institute (FLMI) and of the Associate Customer Services (ACS). Her previous
work experience includes 21 years of service to a reputable Insurer
at middle management level in the Group and Customer Service departments.
Rebecca’s knowledge of Insurance Products, Insurance
Policies and Pension administration, greatly assists in the execution
of her duties at the OCI, mainly with the registration of insurance
sales agents in both General and Long Term classes of insurance, registration
of Insurance Brokers and other intermediaries. She is also responsible
for the registration and administration of all new and existing pension
plans.
Frances
Carla Hoosain (Ms) - Confidential Secretary
Frances has acquired a strong secretarial background
from her previous place of employment. Through her years of studies,
she has acquired numerous certificates and training that has equipped
her with the necessary skills needed to carry out her duties here at
the OCI.
As the Commissioner’s Confidential Secretary,
Frances is responsible for taking minutes of meetings, organising meetings,
preparing letters, filing and any other related tasks.
Sean
Mark Fenty (Mr) - Office Assistant / Driver
Sean has completed high school, gaining CXC passes
in five subjects. He is a holder of a valid Guyana Drivers Licence with
over twelve years driving experience. His previous work has given him
practical working experience in the office environment.
Thus as the Office Assistant / Driver he is tasked
with the carrying out OCI mails in a timely manner, making office purchases,
maintenance of the vehicle and any other duties outlined by the Commissioner.
